Introducing Eye Spy’s 2013 Lookbook!!

Written by on August 5th 2013

Documented for the Capture the Road,  a cross country photography project by Chris Hershman & Amanda Farmer…Eye Spy’s new video lookbook is nothing short of fabulous! Sit down, relax…and feast your eyes on the hand-crafted eyewear and beautiful scenery.

Capture The Road Presents: An Eye Spy Optical Film from Chris Hershman on Vimeo.

Chris and Amanda are city dwellers and long-time friends with one thing in common; their many passions and talents don’t fit neatly inside “the box”. On July 16th, they took a break from their 9-5s and made a 12-day-long road trip across the country.

Their goal on this journey was to step outside of the box, meet new people, see the countryside, capture beautiful images, and explore the many facets of themselves. This is where they documented their journey as artists, philosophers, travelers, and lovers of people. This is where they captured the road.

We love Theo Trunk Show…in June!

Written by on May 15th 2013

In case you have not already realized it, we love Theo! Theo was the first line of eyewear that the Queen of Specs fell in love with over 15 years ago. It was true love.

Every spring and fall, our fabuolus eyewear lines introduce new collections at the trade shows in Milan and Paris. We go to these shows to see the newest of the new…and now it is your turn to see the new Theo collection…in Chicago, which is a lot closer, but maybe not as fun;-)

Join us at our Theo Trunk Show on Thursday, June 20th from 1-7 PM  to see why we are in love….

CUSTOMER OF THE WEEK!!

Written by on May 9th 2013

Introducing our Customer(s) Of The Week: Lisa and Frank!!

Keeping with the multiple COTW theme for the month of May, we’ve chosen to feature this super awesome husband/wife duo. Frank is rockin’ his tortoise RetroSuperFuture shades, while Lisa is making a statement with these kick-ass baby blue, wooden February 31st aviators.

This power couple just so happens to run Smog Veil Records, an independent record label based right here in Chicago. Not only do they distribute the traditional cd/dvd/vinyl media forms, they also work the digital route through iTunes and Napster. In addition to that cool fact, the company also has a green initiative, and its headquarters are powered by wind and solar energy.

Environmentally conscious AND stylish? How much cooler can they get?!

BYO-JAR Terrarium Workshop on Sat., April 27!

Written by on April 15th 2013

Do you love a terrarium as much as we do?? It’s a little bit of happy in a jar, and we can all use a little happy hanging around. As the last installment of our Green Scene Workshops, we will be hosting a BYOJ (Bring Your Own Jar) Terrarium workshop! On April 27 12-4pm, the lovely Julie of Good Things Grow Midway will be leading the workshop!

Good Things Grow Midway started out as one Momma’s optimistic idea to pretty up a neighborhood, and has quickly evolved into a developing revolution of sorts. G.T.G.M. strives to build community, on the southwest side of Chicago, and bring neighbors together through; art, gardening, community and action.

Swing on by with your jar, meet Julie and make a little jar of happiness, I mean, a terrarium. Any sort of jar will do, within reason of course! You have to be able to get some things inside, and it’s best if it has a lid!

T-Shirt & Veggie Stamping Workshop on Saturday!

Written by on April 8th 2013

The third weekend of our DIY Green Scene Series is: making t-shirt bags & then stamping designs on the shirts with veggies! Whew. That was a mouthful!

Let’s be real…we have all got enough plastic bags. Did you know that you can take all those pesky t-shirts you sort of love (or hate) and make them in to bags?! We followed these instructions and already made some bags for you:-) They will look like this:

Then, the next step is: take a bunch of cut-up vegetables, dip them into fabric paint (we chose a handful of fluorescent colors!), and then stamp the designs onto the the newly-created t-shirt bags! You will have a masterpiece that you can use everyday….after you let the bags dry for 72 hours, of course:-)

Swing on in this Saturday, April 20th from 12-4pm  and take a lesson from Bob Fields &  Zara Versten, the dad/daughter duo of the Queen of Specs!
