Like small businesses (of course you do you are reading our blog after all)? Like local artists (I mean who doesn’t)? Then POP UP! and POP on down to Art Lakeview Pop-Up Art Experience! What is Art Lakeview you may ask? During the week of July 21-29th the Lakeview Chamber of Commerce along with local businesses on Lincoln and Southport will host local artists. There is a main gallery at the Chicago Photography Center, conveniently right across the street from us, and you are welcome to shop hop up and down the street and take in all the lovely art!
Our artist is our Queen’s dad, Bob Fields! We are so excited to get to be surrounded by his beautiful work. Fields has exhibited in several group shows locally. He has led adult drawing classes and as well has having worked with kids in the Chicago Park District creating woodcraft projects. Fields earned his Bachelors of Fine Arts in Industrial Design from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Much of his body of work including sculpture, drawings, photography and prints have been exhibited locally, and are currently being collected and commissioned for installation around the Chicagoland area and beyond.
Fields is a minimalist working with form and composition. His work references philosophy, history and the built environment. Constructing low-relief wall pieces from a mixture of new and reclaimed materials, Fields then over paints the piece, covering each with multiple layers of paint building up a beautiful texture. Fields is continually exploring embossed prints on paper.

Our Customer of the Week is Eugenie!
Eugenie looks so glamorous in her new Anne et Valentin frames. We love that round glasses are so in fashion right now. This pair is extra special with its matte finish and thick plastic. Eugenie’s light blue eyes sparkle against the dark blue.

We couldn’t be more excited for our Theo Trunk Show tomorrow (it’s from 2-8pm). We will be kicking off the day with a friendly BBQ and some good ol’ apple pie! Theo has been alive and making superb specs since 1989! Each pair is beautifully handcrafted in Belgium and comes in a gorgeous array of colors!
Sharing the event with Theo will be the lovely ladies from Girls Rock! Chicago. Girls Rock! is dedicated to fostering girls’ creative expression, positive self-esteem and community awareness through rock music.

Drumroll please…….Our Customer of the Week is: Johnny!
We LOVE how these Theo’s look on him. John, being a fan of Eye Spy since 2000, found just the right frame in this great royal blue and ocean blue…which are fitting colors since you can find him hanging with the sea life down at the Shedd Aquarium.
John’s very first pair of Theo’s was also a round metal frame…but in between, he ventured into acetate frames designed by Lafont and Claire Goldsmith. Johnny’s hairstylist is around the corner, Heidi at Shear Style, so we are always happy when he stops in to say hi… and occasionally to get new eyewear after getting his locks trimmed !

Around here we love helping people see better (well, obviously in snazzy frames). Learning more and more about optical it makes you start to wonder how exactly other people see…it’s a funny thing sight is, because we can never really understand the way another person sees. Do we all see the same green? Is the green that you see the same as the one I see? How is it different? We stumbled across a podcast by Radiolab discussing this very thing. Colors is the name of the episode, a totally mind blowing podcast! Thanks for the education Radiolab!

Our Customer of the Week is Claire!
We love how fun these Francis Klein frames look on Claire, she can really rock them! She has been a fan of Eye Spy since 2001 and she is definitely not afraid of a color. The turqoise blue is fabulous with her ice blue eyes and the crystals give them just the right amount of sparkle. Claire, we could not resist making you…Customer of the Week!!!

Ooooh, we finally got our second line of wood frames. They are made in the USA … in Ohio to be exact, and they could not be more exquisite!
We love how the true beauty of the natural wood shows through, since Anni never applies any paint to the outside of their frames. All of their production is done in house and they use an 8-layer process on both the face and temple pieces to ensure an unsurpassed quality frame! Whoa.
Also, we love that Anni shades is super *green*: for each pair of frames sold, they will plant a tree in their community.
