I am often asked, "How do you choose the Customer of the Week?"

The answer is a complicated formula that looks kind of like this:

This week, our CUSTOMER OF THE WEEK is Marny Christin!!!

Marny loved the shape of this Theo frame, but wasn't sure about the colors that we had in the store. No problem, we were able to go online and access the Theo frame catalogue where we could show Marny the many (many many) colors available for this frame. We chose two colors and ordered the frames in so Marny could try them on before making a final decision on her awesome new specs!

It's like Goldilocks, but with eyeglasses. Because this frame is JUST RIGHT :)

CUSTOMER OF THE WEEK!

Ahh, so many weeks we've chosen one or more lovely customers to spotlight here.... we've just been reminiscing and we've decided that, this week, we're going to say THANK YOU to all of our previous choices for CUSTOMER OF THE WEEK!

These lovely faces show how great it is to take a chance on a RED frame or a BLUE frame! They represent the whimsical side of Anne et Valentin frames, the fantastic structure of ic! berlin frames, and the intriguing angles of Theo frames. These faces are what make Francis Klein glasses sparkle, they are what make Frost frames come alive and they show why Lafont is a good and reliable friend when it comes to quality eyewear. These customers have helped us welcome Grotesque and Claire Goldsmith to Eye Spy, they've modeled our eyewear in advertisements on postcards, in magazines, and even on El platforms!

Paul read about Eye Spy in the Chicago Reader, where we were named in the Best of Chicago 2009 issue! Let me tell you, it was a blast helping Paul choose some new frames. When he tried on these Theo frames, we all knew they were the ones!

Winter Wonderland!

At Eye Spy, we love winter!

OK, we don't love the low temperatures or the slushy, wet snow, or the delayed buses and head colds.

We DO love hot chocolate that somehow tastes sooo much better when it's cold outside!
And we really love cozy sweaters and scarves.

And wow-oh-wow, do we love to decorate the store and make it a Winter Wonderland inside and out!

Inside, we have a new eyewear line, Claire Goldsmith, direct from jolly old England. We also have a TON of new Eyebobs readers and bucketloads of new Theo frames, Anne et Valentin frames, Francis Klein frames, and Lafont frames.

Outside, we've put up sparkling lights in the window so that, even when it snows, you'll be able to find Eye Spy's shining lights on Lincoln Ave.

Doesn't it just look so warm and cozy in there?

We put up our favorite window decorations, included a section for Christmas with little elves an ornaments and a Chanukah section with a menorah handmade by our own Queen of Specs!

We've made the store a cozy and warm place to hang out and get out of the cold while you're looking for new glasses to go with your winter wardrobe.

CUSTOMER OF THE WEEK!

WHOO! It's that time again! What time? Time to crown a new CUSTOMER OF THE WEEK!

This week, we chose DAVID THOMPSON!

David already had two frames from Eye Spy when he stopped in to check out some new styles. Lucky for him we had a gaggle of Theo Frames in the store and couldn't wait to see him in these *amazing* blue (and brown!) Theos!

Hey, waitaminute, where's the brown? Well that's the best part of this frame (okay, 2nd best, the best is how BLUE this Theo frame makes David's eyes look!). The front of the frame is this lovely slate blue, but the top is chocolate brown!

It's always nice to find frames with personality.

David also chose to wear with the Hoya ID lens, which is a progressive lens that gives the wearer a wider field of vision. So walking up stairs won't make him feel like he's inside of some carnival trick house. Now, in his new Theo frames, he'll have a smooth look, aesthetically and functionally.

Way to go David! You're our CUSTOMER OF THE WEEK!

Giving Thanks

Here at Eye Spy, we have a lot to be thankful for: awesome eyeglasses that surround us all day long, a funky and colorful work environment, and Dinkel's right across the street!

But, today, what we are most thankful for are the awesome awesome customers--you are all so much fun to have around!

You make our hearts go ZING!

What we are second most thankful for are the new frames that have been arriving all week!

First, the Theo invasion:

Theo's classic metal style that we all know and looooove.

And new Theo plastics! Absence does make the heart grow fonder!
It's been a while since Theo has made plastic frames and, yow, are we happy they're back!

Then, we received the Lafont frames for our Trunk Show this weekend! The frames will only be here for the weekend, so if you want to see hundreds of Lafonts in dozens of colors, put on you hat and gloves and come over to Eye Spy! (Pssst...The Lafont trunk show will be on Saturday, November 28, from 11-5pm.)

ooooooh. ahhhhhh.

CUSTOMER OF THE WEEK!

Whoo! Our CUSTOMER OF THE WEEK this week picked up one of the *most amazing frames ever!!!!*

Kristin Millikan came in to Eye Spy in search of a new look. She was so much fun and had so much energy! We found two frames that looked wonderful on her! After taking some time to think on it and getting the opinion of friends and family, Kristin chose go to with this Theo Eyewitness frame. And really, even though she had another frame in mind, I think this was love at first sight.

When Kristin walked into the store, this frame saw her and was all "woo hoo hoo, I like you."

Our CUSTOMER OF THE WEEK this week will be joining the Eye Spy family real soon, well, kind of... MATTHEW SIEFFERT is engaged to the lovely Miss Alex Blunt, a longtime customer of Eye Spy!

Matthew and Alex came in to the store last winter and tried on some awesome frames. Matthew kept these LAFONT frames in the back of his mind and as the wedding day got closer and closer, he found it was time to update his look before the big day!

It's true that Alex has great taste in more than glasses!

Our Customer of the Week this week is Bonnie Harrison!


I mean, come on, how could we not? Look at how awesome she is in these Anne et Valentin frames! Bonnie traveled all the way from Hyde Park to get her new eyeglasses at Eye Spy and boy are we glad she did! Not only does Bonnie have awesome taste (she still has her eye on a gorgeous pair of Theo frames), but she also has a kick-butt personality.

Ch-ch-check it out! The Button-o-Matic is coming to Eye Spy! For the month of September the Butto-o-Matic machine will be dispensing its limited-edition series of 24-karat gold buttons at Eye Spy! We will be having a celebration on Saturday, September 12 from 12-5pm... with Beer, Bagels, and a make-your-own Button Machine!

Whoo-Hoo! It's time for our CUSTOMER OF THE WEEK! Let me tell you, this week, it's a real stunner!

Dewitt Jackson has *Great* taste in frames! He's not afraid of wearing funky frames, whether it's a yellow Anne et Valentin or these incredible blue Theo frames!

This early bird got the way cool and totally awesome new Theo frame.

When Dewitt came into the store, we had just received our new Theo stock, we hadn't even put them out on the floor yet! But due to perfect timing, Dewitt was the first person to try this Theo frame on and he wasn't about to let it go!

Great choice, Dewitt, these Theo frames look amazing!





Sad that summer is almost over? Don't sweat it! There are still plenty of sunny days left! Eye Spy is celebrating these last days of summer with a Sunglass Sale! CUSTOMER OF THE WEEK x 2!

Wow, I just couldn't make up my mind this week when it came down to choosing our CUSTOMER OF THE WEEK! There were so many amazing frames chosen in the last few days that my mind went into a spinning dizzy spell of puzzlement!

But do you know what sturdied me? Red and blue glasses, that's what. This week, we have two, that's right two CUSTOMERS OF THE WEEK because two is better than one and sometimes the only way to make yourself happy is to let both sides win.

First up, HANNAH JENNINGS, who just picked up her Theo frames this morning! The way the blue just makes her eyes look so bright and lively really brightened my day, and Hannah's too, I'm sure! I love love love the way Theo frames can express our whimsical side!

It's a blue, blue summer, do be do...

Next up is TIFFANY FARRIS! Faced with the conundrum of choosing between two gorgeous frames, Tiffany went with both pairs. Smart girl. One pair is a lovely turquoise and tortoise cat-eye frame by Anne et Valentin. Her second pair is also an Anne et Valentin frame, but for this one, Tiffany listened to her funky side and boy are we glad she did, check out how **amazing** she looks in her red Anne et Valentin glasses!

The Specs Therapist is Back!!!

Hey Eye Spy friends!

Specs Therapist (Mary Hamilton) here. I've been away from Eye Spy for the last two weeks for a cross-country literary tour (The Dollar Store Tour) sponsored by Chicago's own Featherproof Books. We went to 11 cities in 14 days and I can tell you that everywhere I went I saw Spectacular Specs! I saw Lafonts in New Orleans and I spotted a pair of bright green Theos in Baltimore among many other bright and funky frames.

The trip was great, but I missed Eye Spy! The first thing I did was take a walk around the store and coo over all of the new frames that arrived while I was away, I can't wait to see them on all of you!

It's good to be back.

TWO, eye said, TWO CUSTOMERS OF THE WEEK

oops! We took a little nap and forgot to choose a CUSTOMER OF THE WEEK last week, so today, we're naming TWO, that's right, TWO CUSTOMERS OF THE WEEK!

Mary chose a delightful RED frame by THEO. The color and the shape make her brown eyes look so big and pretty! Great choice, Mary!


Our second CUSTOMER OF THE WEEK is our neighbor, SANDY DINKEL. Sandy isn't used to wearing her glasses all the time, so she chose a light and subtly sparkley frame to make her feel and look comfortable and fun at the same time.
