G’Day to Niloca…Our New Line!

Written by on January 27th 2014

Niloca Pile

We have been waiting (in the freezing cold) for our new line to get here. It sure did take them long enough to get here … perhaps because the goodies came from Australia….or maybe it was a combo of Chiberia and Snowpocalypse. What matters is that  Niloca is here NOW!
With the tag line of “…unsuitable for ubiquitous consumption,” they surely do not disappoint!

Greca. Geric. Grandi frames

“Niloca has a heart or rather 4.  Niloca is a family operation, quite often based at the kitchen table.  There are no aspirations to appease hipsters or mass market saturation, just the supply of interesting eyewear to select independent optical purveyors for the delight of eyewear individualists everywhere.”

Come in and try-on these dreamboats! Pssssst… we are the only ones in the states that have them! Bam!

CUSTOMER OF THE WEEK!!

Written by on January 5th 2014

Check out our new Customer of the Week: JOHN!!

John is a pretty laid back guy. He’s also apparently a self proclaimed “THEO snob.” (According to our research, he’s the owner of 3 pairs of these Belgian beauties.)

So it was no surprise to us when he chose these hot  THEO Dillinger’s in electric blue to adorn that wonderfully bearded face! These THEO’s are from their newest Spring 2014 collection, so we had to special order these titanium from Belgium. They are so exclusive, we don’t even have them in the store yet!  THEO definitely loves you, John…and we do too!

MAKE WAY FOR THE NEW CUSTOMER OF THE WEEK: Nadine!!

Nadine took advantage of our sunglass extravaganza and copped a pair the these old-school-meets-new-school RetroSuperFuture “Jaguar Tapestry” shades with polarized lenses. There was no debate about these bad boys. Nadine popped these on and suddenly all was right in the world.

Whether she’s on vacation in the islands, on the golf course, or shielding her eyes from a Miley Cyrus twerk show, she’s ready to go in these sooped-up classics.

Not to compete with Nadine, but we also saw these sunnies look fabulous on a young gentleman at one of our pop-ups this summer…..

Who’s your fav??

New Optician in the House!

Written by on February 7th 2013

We have a new lady in the house! Join us in welcoming Adrienne, our new Optical Chanteuse!! We are stoked to have another curly-haired gal join the team!

ROCKIN’ THE VISIONARY FRAME BY RVS

We asked Adrienne a few questions just so everyone could get to know her a little better before you let her pick out your new dreamy glasses.

What catches your wee eye at Eye Spy?
Um…. the rad ladies I now get to work with. Seriously.

What is your favorite thing in the entire world?
CHOCOLATE!  It makes everything okay.

If your house was on fire what would you save?
My Cat, Ophelia, my phone….and my Lucky brand boots.

What is your fave role you played?  (Side Note: Adrienne is an actress, in case you didn’t catch that.)
Jenny Diver, from Three Penny Opera.

Why make the move to Chicago?
Wanted to live in a big city that wasn’t too big. I wanted to be surrounded by arts and culture.

What do you do in your free time?
If I am not in a show…..usually trying to catch up on some quality Hulu time with my man.

Adrienne is currently obsessed with the Visionary frame by RVS. We can’t wait for everyone to meet our brand-spankin’ new optician. Come on in and let her sing you a song.

Written by on December 12th 2010

This week the Specs Therapist chose the Anne et Valentin Lap as her Employee Pick!

This frame is sugar and spice and everything nice!
It’s unicorns frolicking in a dandelion meadow.

It’s Candy Cane Lane in Adorabletown.
It’s sing-along fun and mirth!
This frame is cozy blanket and a good book.
This frame is ring around the rosy.
It’s Glenda the good witch.
It’s the center of a cinnamon bun.
This frame is snow angels.
This frame is puppies!
This frame is marshmallows expanding in a cup of hot cocoa.
This frame is DELIGHTFUL! Try it on and just see if you can suppress a smile.

Employee Picks: Thierry Lasry Asphixy

Written by on December 5th 2010

This week the Opticianista chose a frame that spotlights just how awesome sunglasses can be All Year Round!

The Opticianista likes the orange color in this frame (look close and you’ll also see nifty gold flecks!). She likes that the orange is a bright color and that the frame has just a touch of 80s inspiration.

The frame has a confetti print, so it is not a traditional tortoise nor is it just one solid color which means that, most likely, two frames won’t look the same. The Opticianista is a fan of that unique feature of the frame, it’s something to adore about this line of sunglasses.

She also likes that it’s a cat-eye shape, but it’s one-of-a kind style makes if fashion-forward instead of a retro throwback.

And, most of all, the Opticianista is proud that Eye Spy Optical is the only store in Chicago that carries Thierry Lasry frames!

Employee Picks: The Francis Klein Marcus

Written by on November 27th 2010
This week, the Optician Magician chose a classic frame with a modern twist, the Francis Klein Marcus!

She chose this frame because it makes a statement while being understated.

She also likes the way that it has two colors, but not in a gradient tint, as has become quite the fad lately, but that one layer of color us cut away to reveal the lighter tint below. The cut-out also creates a unique, geometric pattern at the bridge, which is noticeable when the frame is worn.

The cut out adds texture to the frame and adds a bit of sophistication to make the frame more distinguished.

This smaller, vintage look fits smaller faces and is quite affordable for a handmade high quality product.

The best part, says the Optician Magician, is this frame is not flat, “It’s multi-dimensional, just like you and your personality!”

Employee Picks: The Lafont Esther

Written by on November 21st 2010

This weekend, we had the full Lafont collection in the store and, let me tell you, it was easy to fall in love.

One frame really stood out. The Lafont ESTHER stole my heart!

I, personally, adore the frame in this dusty rose color:

But if you stop by Eye Spy, you’ll be able to take a peek at this frame in black and leopard.

I love the contrast between the plastic sides and the titanium front. It’s a great way to give the frame a bold look without adding a lot of weight.

I also J’ADORE the little metal decoration at the temples. They’re like a 50s car and they say, “Yes, I am this wonderful.”

The frame is a fairly traditional cat-eye shape, but it doesn’t swoop too much, so the focus is still on the face and delightful eyes of the person wearing it. The Lafont Esther is just one of those frames that makes my heart sing and my feet dance dance dance all the way to Eye Spy!

It’s almost time to bid adieu to our November trunk shows, which have featured all of the new frames from our favorite lines! Hundreds of new frames, in every style and color imaginable. Come in next weekend for the IC! BERLIN Trunk Show on Saturday, November 27 from 11-5!

Employee Picks: The Claire Goldsmith Irwin

Written by on November 7th 2010

This week, the Specs Therapist (Hey, that’s me!) chose the Claire Goldsmith Irwin as her pick of the week.

The Specs Therapist (Still me!) loves the dramatic shape of this otherwise subtle cat-eye. The rounded lens exaggerates the angles at the temples, which makes any lady wearing it look more vibrant and alert.

Also: totally digging the tortoise design, which gives the frame light and darkness and looks a little different from any angle.

Love this frame. Love that it’s sturdy and studious with a wink for the mischief makers among us.

We are giddy with anticipation for our trunk shows every Saturday in November, which will feature all of the new frames from our favorite lines! Hundreds of new frames, in every style and color imaginable…we’re getting dizzy just thinking about it! Come in this weekend for the Oliver and Claire Goldsmith Trunk Show on Saturday, November 13 from 11-5!

And if, during the month of November, you bring canned food for donation to Lakeview Pantry, we will take $25 off your complete Rx eyewear purchase.
