Customers of the Week!

Written by on June 13th 2013

Check out our customers of the week Patrick and Jessica! This sweet couple came in for an updated look. What do you think? We are in love with Jessica’s big smile…and her Anne et Valentin Elevate frame. Patrick loves very handsome in his Theo Huitante+3 in brown and green. Go green frames!!

Jessica took a small hiatus from Eye Spy,  got lenses somewhere else and had trouble adjusting to the lenses:-( She knows she is sensitive to small changes in her prescription…just like many artists, engineers,  designers and other detail-oriented folks!  When she put on her new Anne et Valentin frames from Eye Spy, we tweaked the adjustment and she said that they felt great…and that made *us* feel real good:-)

The fact is, there are hundreds of lens designs for opticians to choose from….and choosing the correct lens design is paramount to adapting quickly to your new glasses!! After looking at your prescription, frame choice and asking some lifestyle, adaptation, and usage questions, the certified opticians at Eye Spy decide on the very best lens design…just for you!!

Many opticians do not ask these questions, and do not have the access or training to use the newer technically-advanced that we like to use. It takes a bit more time, but it is worth the time and energy to select the perfect lens design for each customer…especially when we are talking about progressive lens design! We prefer to use lenses from Hoya and Shamir, but we have access to every single lens on the market.

Jessica and Patrick came in for the Mom’s the Word Trunk Show, got a free massage and picked out these sweet glasses! Congrats to our customers of the week!

Kiss My Aster Seed Bombs!

Written by on March 27th 2013

As part of Eye Spy’s April Green Scene month we will be hosting a series of DIYworkshops the very first being a Seed Bomb workshop on April 6th 12 to 4 pm.

But…I bet you are wondering what the what a seed bomb is?  The official definition is as follows:

Seed bombing is a technique of introducing vegetation to land by throwing or dropping compressed bundles of soil containing live vegetation (seed balls). Often, seed bombing projects are done with arid or off-limits (for example, privately owned) land.

The very sassy and punk rock Amanda Thomsen of Kiss My Aster will be leading a drop-in workshop on making seed bombs and turf prints!  You might recognize her from her fancy interview and spread in the Sunday edition of the Chicago Tribune!
Or just from her blog, Kiss My Aster, that she’s had up and running for 7 years.

Amanda joined the world of paper back writing with her hilarious blog-titled book!  Seriously, it’s awesome!!!

Come on by on April 6th and meet this fabulous lady and make seed bombs.

April Green Scene

Written by on March 13th 2013

Okay. We know everyone is trying to get in on the action…but we REALLY do care about the Earth and have been doing anything and everything possible to be green for the past 15 years. Seriously.

What other small retail store has a compost bin, gives used packing materials away to neighboring businesses, never buys any paper, emails receipts, puts LED bulbs in its outdoor sign, and reprimands its employees when they use disposable cups from Starbucks? Huh?!?

Sooooo, this year we will be hosting a bunch of workshops at Eye Spy…from making seed bombs, to creating terrariums in ball jars. Stay posted for the schedule! When we get all of our ducks in a row, we will post the dates and times right here. We promise. If you have any suggestions, hopes or dreams for workshops, feel free to email us!

We can’t wait to see you;-)

We’ve got a new look!

Written by on June 16th 2009

Check it out!!!

Hey You!! Look at me!!

Eye Spy has a new look!

green is the new awesome

You know us, at Eye Spy, we like to be as green as possible. For a while, we’ve been bored with our plain brown facade. It didn’t accurately represent the Eye Spy attitude!

Then, Alissa had the brilliant idea of putting astro-turf on the store! She cut the panels in her own back yard and put them up with Velcro, so when we remove the middle two panels, we have a fun purple chalkboard hidden away! Wait, there’s more!

It turns out the astro-turf is made out of recycled materials. So we did get the green facade we’ve always wanted. It just took a little elbow grease and a lot of clever thinkin’!

’tis better to give…

Written by on May 27th 2009

Now that you have awesome new glasses, what are you going to do with all those old specs?

Whatcha gonna do?!

1) Be a responsible glasses-wearer and keep one pair as a back-up!

2) Bring the rest to Eye Spy!

Eye Spy Optical is sponsoring a campaign to collect used eyeglasses, jewelry, and hearing aids!

The donated glasses and other items will be sent to New Eyes for the Needy, a non-profit volunteer organization whose mission is to improve the vision of poor children, adults and seniors in the United States and throughout the world.

Last year, New Eyes paid for new prescription eyeglasses for 5,945 needy residents of the U.S. In addition, over 200,000 pairs of recycled eyeglasses were sorted, tested and shipped to medical missions and international charitable organizations in 24 developing nations.

For additional information, visit their website at www.neweyesfortheneedy.org. We have a collection box in our store located at 3350 N. Lincoln Ave. in Chicago

We also have collection boxes at the Lakeview YMCA on Marshfield and at Wishbone at Lincoln and School.

……don’t forget!…….

Stop by Saturday, June 13th for our Sunglass Trunk Show featuring the frames of Persol, Maui Jim, and IC!Berlin! We’ll have a party going from 11-5! Get your Dad a snazzy new pair of UV Blockin’ specs for Father’s day!!!
