Spring has sprung and it’s time to start those outdoor projects, but don’t forget to wear your sunglasses! Wearing sunglasses provides benefits beyond the obvious comfort and looking even cooler than you already are. A good pair of sunglasses blocks 100% of the sun’s UV rays. Why is this important? The eyelids are the second most likely spot to get skin cancer and exposure to UV rays is a proven cause of skin cancer. Pterygin, a non-malignant but vision threatening growth on the cornea, is another harmful effect of UV exposure.

The acceleration of the onset of cataracts and macular degeneration are caused by the accumulated exposure of UV throughout your life.

Ooooh, we can’t take our peepers off of Theodore and Peggy’s new glasses! They came to visit us at Eye Spy all the way from the west suburbs with the hope of some fantastic new frames…
Theodore specified that he ideally wanted a lightweight frame, but with a large lens area. The Mykita Till was the perfect fit!!! They are super light due to the stainless steel material and the aviator style gives him tons of room to see. He loved them so much that he also bought a sunglass version…the Mykita Clifford.
Peggy, on the other hand, had no clue what she was looking for. Theodore saved the day by suggesting these beauties…and she was in love! Theo Eyewitness SE is a flattering shape on Peggy showing off her pretty blue eyes. The asymmetrical decor gives the frame individuality and fun!!!

Wow…this Mykita frame looks so retro on Brad! The warm yellow hue as well as the softly curved shape are super flattering. The glasses are big enough to give him a large viewing area, but do not overwhelm his face. His button-down shirt is awesome as usual with its western style embroidery. The turquoise bolo tie stands out against the neutral colors of Brad’s outfit…although the newly grown mustache is what completes the look!
Did you know that even when it gets cold and gray outside this winter, you will still need sunglasses to protect your eyes? UV rays from the sun are always there…and can cause early development of cataracts and a host of other vision-hampering problems. Sunglasses protect you from wind exposure, which is a must in Chicago!

Even thought it was raining, these Anne et Valentin frames sure brightened our day! Lisabeth looks so happy wearing this flattering cat-eye lens shape. You can’t beat the teal hue and unique drop temple (when the temples start lower on the frame).
Lisabeth also looks hip, but classy in her leopard-print Lafont sunglasses. Leopard-print is a huge trend on the runways this fall! The frame shape is timeless and can be worn for years to come.

DANA!!!
We love the chocolate brown Lafont frames on Dana, the pink accents really make them pop! This pair is sophisticated with angles that give them a modern twist. They are made of titanium which makes them super strong with half of the weight.
Lafont’s fabulous mix of colors and patterns can also be seen in Dana’s second pair. The sunglasses get Dana ready for a summer of great Chicago weather (fingers crossed), and really give her a glow! These lenses are polarized to help eliminate glare and give Dana a clearer view of her surroundings.

Hello, everyone…this is Patsy, the Specs Wrangler! I am so excited to be taking over the reigns from Mary, so here it goes….
Look at these sassy Ray-Bans Kid’s sunglasses we got in this morning! Protect your kids from harmful UV-A and UV-B in style. Adorable…and functional. As we like to say, sunglasses are sunscreen for the eyes. For a sporty look, we also carry Julbo sunglasses for babies and kids 
Did you know that more light enters children’s eyes than adult’s eyes? As we age, the lens of our eye gets cloudy….which blocks out the light. So, it makes sense that kids have very clear lenses and all of the light passes through them and can do a lot of damage to the retina:-( In addition, most kids spend a *ton* more time outside than adults. By the time kids are 18 years old, they will have been exposed to 80% of their lifetime UV exposure! And while we are on the subject, it is also important to wear sunglasses when it is cloudy outside…because, as we all know, UV rays travel through clouds.
This is why it is vital to have a pair of trusty kid’s sunglasses that your son or daughter loves and will wear all the time…..and s/he can be like mommy and daddy;-)
