Customer of the Week!

Written by on January 26th 2014

Hey all you optical enthusiasts! It’s that time again. We must pay homage to our new Customer of the Week: Alison!!

Alison came in thinking she wanted the exact same style frame she already had ; a tortoise/green round plastic frame that bordered on the conservative side; a reliable companion since she had long since left beind hard contacts. But with the finesse and guidance of our new optician, Siobhan, Allison was able to expand her mind.

Suddenly, her eyes fell upon these turquoise Theo “James” frames. She jokingly tried them on thinking: “Oh these will look absolutely ridicuously on me” …but was immediatly posessed by the magic of these beatiful specs. Obviously this was a match made in heaven! We’re SO glad that Alison AND her husband love these frames as much as we do!

Hey Everyone!!

This Customer of the Week is a Two-fer!! Meet: Cathy!!

Caroline Abram “Gaby”

Anne et Valentin “Fanzine”

Cathy just couldn’t decide between the Caroline Abram “Gaby” cat-eyes, and the Anne et Valentin “Fanzine”…so she made the bold (and correct) decision to throw caution to the wind and get’em both! I mean…wouldn’t you?! And she is ROCKING both of these bold styles.

Thanks to Cathy for being our Customer of the Week AND for introducing our Specs Wrangler to Absolutely Fabulous, from the BBC! Patsy had never seen the show….but as soon as Cathy turned Patsy on to AbFab, it was true love!

In case you don’t know about Absolutely Fabulous….or even if you are in the know, check out this fabulous montage…and don’t laugh too hard;-)

Customer of the Week!!

Written by on September 15th 2013

It’s Sunday Funday, folks! Which means we’ve got a new Customer of the Week! And that customer happens to be Gretchen!

We’ve been a little biased towards sunglasses these last few weeks. But come on….these are too good not to report.

Gretchen hopped on the express train to Shadyville and pulled out all the stops on not one, but TWO pairs of tricked out shades. The first ones are the purple and turquoise lace Lafont “Luxours”. You can’t really get more flashy than these.

Lafont “Luxour”

HOWEVER, in addition to what I like to refer to as the “Elton John inspired” Lafonts, Gretchen also made another bold choice in choosing these Francis Klein “Pinup” shades, adorned with guilded bumble bees!  Yea that’s right….BEES! Needless to say, wherever she goes, she is going to get noticed with these spectacular works of ocular art!

MAKE WAY FOR THE NEW CUSTOMER OF THE WEEK: Nadine!!

Nadine took advantage of our sunglass extravaganza and copped a pair the these old-school-meets-new-school RetroSuperFuture “Jaguar Tapestry” shades with polarized lenses. There was no debate about these bad boys. Nadine popped these on and suddenly all was right in the world.

Whether she’s on vacation in the islands, on the golf course, or shielding her eyes from a Miley Cyrus twerk show, she’s ready to go in these sooped-up classics.

Not to compete with Nadine, but we also saw these sunnies look fabulous on a young gentleman at one of our pop-ups this summer…..

Who’s your fav??

Introducing our FABULOUS Customer of the Week: Ann!!

Ann has been a faithful Eye Spy-er for years. During her most recent visit, she brought her entourage and they came to a unanimous vote on these sass-tacular black Francis Klein “Help” frames with ruby-red stones. Ann purchased these beauties specifically to wear to a gala event, but we think she will be wearing them everyday:-)

What Glitterz Ain’t Alwayz Gold!

Written by on July 22nd 2013

We here at Eye Spy would like to take a moment to get on our collective soapbox and share some information we find essential to the eyeglass shopper. A lot of folks get caught up in labels. Others think big, recognizable brand means good quality. And in some instances that would be correct. But in the world of eyewear, Gucci doesn’t mean good, and  D&G should stand for dead and gone.

Some of us here have worked in the the corporate driven eyeglass world, where big names mean big sales. Customers drop a lot of $$ just because they want to have Prada written on the side of their head, or gold and crystal encrusted Fendi decals. But my, oh my, how quickly those crystals tarnish and fall off!! And even more frequently, how quickly that spring hinge snaps right out of its socket.

Here’s a little secret: These label frames didn’t come off of a runway in Milan. They were not featured in anyone’s Spring Collection. Heck…they weren’t even designed by the designer whose name is on them! Most of these frames are made the exact same way that those frames you wouldn’t be caught dead in are made. Someone just bought the rights to slap on some glitter and etch a name into the plastic. (By the way, Randy Jackson doesn’t even wear his own line.)

That’s why we at Eye Spy take such pride in our collection of frames. And why we have respect for anyone and everyone who can appreciate them. These frames are actually HANDCRAFTED by experts who only make eyeglasses. And when I say handcrafted, I mean they are designed, created, painted, and decorated by human hands. They are engineered to last and withstand the abuse of the one-handed pull-offers, and the i-sleep-face-down-in-my-frames people.

So, take a peek at this Oliver Goldsmith video to see exactly what handmade eyewear really means…

and forgive our sour-puss faces when you make the mistake of asking if we carry Chanel and the like. It’s just because we like to take care of our customers and adorn their faces with real luxury. :-)

CUSTOMER OF THE WEEK

Written by on June 27th 2013

Say hello to our Customer of the Week: Debbie!!

Debbie is sporting the super hot Theo Huitante+ Sept. With their awesome pink and orange sherbet color, these frames are perfect for Debbie’s summer look!!

Debbie travelled to Eye Spy from the western suburbs in order to find glasses that she could not find anywhere else! And…it just so happened that our fabulous Theo eyewear rep was in-store when Debbie stopped in. As a result, Debbie got to try-on tons of colors and shapes. We have three color combinations of this frame in-stock, but Debbie fell in love with this color…so we ordered it for her and received it in two weeks. It takes time to get frames from Belgium!

Congratulations on your Customer of the Week status Debbie!!

HipSters NeEd FrAmes ToO!

Written by on June 16th 2013

The Hipster. The fashion figure that against it’s own will has become mainstream. Being TOO cool is, unfortunately, what made hipsters cool.

They are ID’ed by their tight t-shirts meant to look like they came from the Salvation Army (but were actually purchased from an over-priced corporate-driven sale rack), painted-on skinny jeans, grandpa’s sweater, and a knit beanie worn in -9° or 90° weather.
But let us not forget the ultimate hipster accessory….

The Hipster Glasses.

The only requirement really for the hipster frame is that it be over-sized, holding no real prescription. They are predominantly there to complete the “look” of uncool coolness. These are the kinds of glasses we wore back in the day that would get us beaten up or stolen and thrown out the school bus window.  These dork-a-licious frames have risen from the ashes like a phoenix and are in higher demand than any other style. WHO-DA THUNK?!

You can’t TRULY be a hipster if you’ve got the same glasses as the hipster standing next you smoking an herbal cigarette,  listening to music you’ve never heard, outside a bar that no one else goes to. SO we’ve decided to put together a lookbook for all the folks out there, hipster or otherwise, that can show you how to portray the type of hipster you are, will be, or always have been.
