Meet Dr. Weil.
Dr. Weil graduated from the Illinois College of Optometry and as been practicing for over 30 years! Following her post graduate studies, she joined the faculty at the University of Houston, College of Optometry as an assistant professor where she lectured on the treatment of lazy eyes and other childhood conditions. Most recently, she has worked with the Infant Welfare Society, as well as and other private practices in the suburbs. As a result, she is excellent with both children and adults… and loves a challenge!
As a developmental optometrist, Dr. Weil performs additional testing to determine if a patient has adequate visual function to perform simple tasks such as reading, switching focus from the board to a desk, and to simple tasks such as catching a ball. If your vision interferes with your ability to read, learn or pay attention, you made need visual therapy. Dr. Weil works with our patients to solve these issues, through various techniques.

In addition to determining your prescription, Dr. Weil prescribes medications, and assesses the need for low-vision rehabilitation, vision therapy, and certain surgical procedures.
How are eye exams different at Eye Spy?
Our optometrist takes into account your current correction *and* your feedback in the exam room in order to determine an accurate eyeglass prescription that you will feel comfortable wearing. For this reason, if you have not seen our doctor previously, we ask that you bring in a pair of glasses with your current prescription. For some reason, if you do not adapt to your new prescription, we will recheck the results, and make adjustments and remake your lenses if necessary, at no charge.
At Eye Spy, the dilation is included in every eye exam. In addition, our eye doctor performs every eye test herself. At a majority of practices, technicians perform many of the tests with automated machines and the patient is with the doctor for 10 minutes. Our eye doctor spends 45 minutes with each patient. When the eye doctor is conducting all the tests, she is spending more time with you, getting to know you and your needs better and detecting more changes.
A comprehensive eye exam includes:
- Dilatation of the eyes
- Glaucoma
- Macular Degeneration
- Hypertensive Retinopathy
- Cataracts
- Color Blindness
- Diabetes
- Thyroid Disease
frequently asked questions
After Dr. Weil graduated with a BA in Biology, she wanted to continue on to graduate school in the sciences. Her twin brother was working towards a PhD in Chemistry, so she needed to keep up with her brother and be a doctor also!! Dr. Weil applied to the Women in Science program at IIT & to the Illinois College of Optometry. After talking to family friends that were in the field, she decided to attend the optometry program…and it turned out to be the perfect fit!
Dr. Weil also conducts children’s eye exams at Eye Spy, even for kids that are too young to read. She tests the need for glasses, depth perception, color vision, strabismus (eye turns) and amblyopia. She can also assess the need for visual therapy for binocular vision problems or perceptual issues. She has extensive experience with visual therapy for kids, which can solve many of these issues.
Periodic eye exams are an important part of routine preventive health care. Usually, eye exams are recommended every one to two years. Many eye & vision conditions have no obvious symptoms. Therefore, individuals are often unaware that a problem exists. Early diagnosis & treatment are important for maintaining good vision and when possible preventing permanent vision loss. The need for & frequency of eye examinations vary with age, race, medical history, family history, occupation and other factors. In addition, the presence of certain risk factors may require more frequent evaluations based on the doctor’s judgment. It’s just like going to your physician for a physical…but a whole lot more fun!
There ar eadditional measurements that need o be taken for contact lenses. There are many, many options for contact lenses and Dr. Weil can help you find the best option. If you thought that you could never wear contacts, we might be able to help you! We offer multi-focals and specialty contact lenses. Dr. Weil is always up for a challenge. When you get an eye exam for contact lenses, your prescription is valid for a year’s supply of contacts.
