Just in case you dropped your chopstick…

Written by on June 7th 2009

I just came across a photo of IC!Berlin frames being used in a, well, creative manner. We have always told our customers how durable IC!Berlin frames are, referencing real-life incidents…such as the time a customer inadvertently got his IC!Berlin’s run over by a car and the frames were not damaged at all!! But this photo just proves how useful IC!Berlin’s really are….and how much extra time some people have on their hands!

So, remember…if you drop one of your chopsticks on the ground and can’t find another set, just take off your IC!Berlin’s, snap off the temples….and dig in. Delicious!

CUSTOMER OF THE WEEK!

Written by on June 6th 2009

Our CUSTOMER OF THE WEEK this week is SHELDON!

Sheldon came to us looking for a round tortoise frame a la William Gibson:

I’m William Gibson, I wrote Neuromancer.

We liked the inspiration of a round frame for Sheldon, but we knew he could pull off something a little bolder. He looks *great* in this frame from the Anne et Valentin Factory series.

makin’ Gibson jealous

Not only is this a great look, but the frame itself is nice and strong with reinforced hinges. The design of the frame is really special, with edges hand cut to give the sides multiple angles.

Great choice, Sheldon, and congratulations on being our CUSTOMER OF THE WEEK!

This week, we’ve chosen JASON as our CUSTOMER OF THE WEEK!

Jason actually bought his glasses in January. He started the year off right by buying TWO pairs of glasses; both fit his personality perfectly. One frame was a plastic Anne et Valentin and the other was this incredible blue and brown THEO titanium frame:

When we were trying to choose a customer of the week, we just couldn’t resist how awesome these frames look on Jason!

Congratulations, Jason, what a great choice!

’tis better to give…

Written by on May 27th 2009

Now that you have awesome new glasses, what are you going to do with all those old specs?

Whatcha gonna do?!

1) Be a responsible glasses-wearer and keep one pair as a back-up!

2) Bring the rest to Eye Spy!

Eye Spy Optical is sponsoring a campaign to collect used eyeglasses, jewelry, and hearing aids!

The donated glasses and other items will be sent to New Eyes for the Needy, a non-profit volunteer organization whose mission is to improve the vision of poor children, adults and seniors in the United States and throughout the world.

Last year, New Eyes paid for new prescription eyeglasses for 5,945 needy residents of the U.S. In addition, over 200,000 pairs of recycled eyeglasses were sorted, tested and shipped to medical missions and international charitable organizations in 24 developing nations.

For additional information, visit their website at www.neweyesfortheneedy.org. We have a collection box in our store located at 3350 N. Lincoln Ave. in Chicago

We also have collection boxes at the Lakeview YMCA on Marshfield and at Wishbone at Lincoln and School.

Well, Hello, Remarkable!!!

Written by on May 17th 2009

Oh my!

I just stumbled upon what may be one of the happiest places on the Internet!

A blog devoted to ***vintage eyewear***

Two teenagers modeling “Boy Watcher” glasses, California, 1965.

Click here to check out Note de l’Hotel, my new 2nd favorite blog (after this one, of course).

Vintage shapes are very much “in” right now and it’s fun to look at all of these styles. But buying actual vintage frames creates the risk of breakage when putting prescription lenses in the frame.

That’s why I’m so very delighted to have lines like Francis Klein and Lafont bringing back the vintage shapes. And who would I be to forget my lovely Theo, they’ve been taking inspiration from these vintage geek shapes and re-making them with titanium in bright colors!

Oh joy joy joy, it’s such a lovely day to look at AWESOME GLASSES!

It’s a family affair this week with our CUSTOMER OF THE WEEK!

Susan came into the store after her daughter, Allison referred her to us. Susan chose a *gorgeous* pair of Lafonts that make her blue eyes SHINE!

It’s no wonder she trusted her daughter’s spectacle advice, check out the frame Allison chose:

It’s not only good looks and brains that run in this family, it’s snazzy specs too!

and don’t forget to:

Huh, how about that

Written by on May 14th 2009

It’s not unusual for a picture or advertisement to catch my eye. Not because of the visual explosion of color! or the innovative use of product placement. No, my eye gets wayward when it comes to Spectacular Specs! Nifty demonstrations of eyewear are always a pleasant surprise.

So imagine my delight when I turned the page of the current issue of Newsweek to see this!

true.

And, of course, there’s this:

Friends don’t let friends go outside without UV protection.

…sent to me by a friend, knowing of my fandom for aviators!

oh, and by the way:
